Looking for your next job?

Life’s too short to be part of the rat race. Do work that matters to you –
find a job that has you leaping out of bed on Monday morning.

Join the work revolution

You followed the rules: you got good grades, landed a graduate job,
and started to work your way through the ranks. As far as everyone else
is concerned, you’re ‘successful’. But, if you’re like the hundreds of
thousands of people who have joined the Escape community, you’re
finding yourself wondering – is this it?

We believe work doesn’t need to be a 9-5 slog, and that you don’t have to live for the weekend.
Escape was born out of the idea that life is too short to do work that doesn’t matter to you.
The world of work is changing, and more people – and organisations – are waking up to this idea.

You might be thinking:

This sounds like a pipedream. Is doing work I love realistic?

Is there really anything out there for me, or am I destined to always be a square peg in a round hole?

How can I land a job with a progressive organisation? What should my CV look like and how can I stand out from the crowd?

Will I have to take a giant pay cut or a massive step down?

I want to do something totally new – how do I get a job in a different industry, with no relevant experience?

It’s a big risk to take. How can I know what I’m getting myself into?

Of course, the tricky part is finding a role that fits your skills, passions and values – which is where we come in.
Read on for more about how our job board works, and to learn from those who’ve successfully made a change.

Some Escape Stories

These career changers share what they’ve learned about making a big change, and how they tackled doubts and obstacles to make it happen.

Laina escaped teaching for her own photography project.

“I’ve always been fiercely passionate about education and helping young people, but became tired of working under a system where I was being undervalued and over-worked. I was suffering both physically and mentally, and realised that I was spending less time making a positive impact helping young people, and more time doing meaningless paperwork… Since escaping, I feel like I am the best version of myself.”

Matt transitioned from a full-time consulting job to solopreneurship.

“Taking action was pivotal for my mindset shift. I shifted from often thinking; “Oh god, what if I fail?” to now thinking, “let’s treat this as one glorious experiment, where I will fail, learn and be okay.” Taking action with the Tribe meant I saw positive outcomes. Taking actions and failing showed me that failure wasn’t ever the catastrophe I anticipated it would be.”

Daisy escaped the charity sector to launch her own innovation consultancy.

“My old mindset wanted one big, terrifying leap, not the challenge of many small steps. It was through sharing my inner turmoil with my fellow Tribe members that I found I wasn’t alone. This new mindset of the single step, rather than one giant leap, has given me the confidence to try new things, start new conversations and believe in the potential of myself to create change now.”

“I started my career at Ernst and Young and am grateful for the training and even some elements of the audit lifestyle! There was a moment after leaving EY where I felt lost. During a charity volunteer day, someone mentioned Escape the City because there would be different roles available.

Escape has opened my eyes to different companies and ways of working out there, having used their jobs board twice in 2016 to work in a technology start up (table tennis!) and then to work for a new dynamic accountancy practice (Tech & the Beancounters) helping Escape with accounting. I definitely think differently and learnt a lot because of the Escape jobs board so thank you!!”
