Absolutely agree that it is only one way of looking at things.

However, I do believe that organisations and business models that don't change eventually get over-taken by more agile / innovative newcomers. I'm also absolutely sure that technology, the internet & social media aren't a 'magic bullet' for new business models...

There is always a requirement for doing the traditional 'old school' things well no matter how innovative / all-conquering you think you are!

Your old office sounded great :-)

I find Seth's nuggets interesting to following but I am not convinced that this is the only way of looking at things, like you say it's only one view of the future and one that seems somewhat fuzzy to me. I might even argue that this view can indeed be superimposed on existing older businesses. But the idea has been dressed up and sold in a new way, it's like we are waiting for the child to point out the truth behind the Emperor's new clothes.

Last year I moved from a forward thinking Internet company (beer on tap in the office, pool table, 20% time and all that - heck why did I leave?!) to go back to work in the City participating in one of the oldest financial markets in the world. Perhaps the biggest contrast in environments you could imagine!

Both have pros and cons and I have to say that the "old school" business models aren't beaten yet. But whether this is because modern approaches still need time to evolve or not is something only time will tell.

Cheers B.

Thanks very much for your comment Ilse. We should have mentioned that this isn't the complete answer to 'the biggest business trends over the next 5 years' ;-) but just Seth Godin's offering!

Completely agree that Transparency, Human Interaction, and Peer-to-Peer Connections are all on the radar for innovative and forward-thinking organisations.

Thanks for taking part.

the business trends which might become successful business models of the future are those which continue to integrate human interactions and needs as well as provide transparencies in order to promote and gain a broad scope of social and educational power for their customers and employees by integrating more bottom-up and vertical interactions rather than relying on top-down authoritive management decision-making procedures.
