Thank you all for your amazing support. I am profoundly moved by your responses and willingness to share your thoughts here. I also thank my friends who have written personally to me and shared their feelings about the post.
To all my readers, i am deeply grateful for your time spent in reading this and sharing with others. Do not wait until it is too late when your health is compromised and then start realising how you could have done things differently. Which is one of the reasons which have driven me to come out of my shell and share this with you.
As my friend Kate Brierley (founder of Harmonic Balancing - http://www.harmonic-balancing.com.au) has shared with me, " It’s a real reminder that things which seem to be negative are in fact stepping stones to greater and beautiful new things! " I could not have said it any better. If the fear of making mistakes holds you back, let Kate's words remind you to see them as blessings in disguise.

Thank you for sharing this, Shelley. This is a help, I think, in helping others understand that "escaping" is not all idyllic pastures but is worth the trouble nonetheless. Best wishes to you for the rest of your journey. It's just a matter of time.

As a Singaporean myself and one who just went away for 3 months just to rethink about my life priorities, I am so happy for your courage to take that leap and create a chapter of your life which you can rightfully call it your own - not by any social pressure or pre-set life routes. You paid the price, you feel the pinch - the decision is yours.

keep fighting for your dream, for you are not alone.

Thanks so much for sharing your story Shelley - it's a really brave and honest account of what a PROCESS escaping can be. It reminds me of this Seth Godin post (http://sethgodin.typepad.com/seths_blog/2012/08/its-a-long-story.html): "Actually, the long stories are the good ones. About how you found that great job, or discovered this amazing partner or managed to get that innovation approved. If long stories are so great, how come we spend all our lives working for the short ones? The very act of seeking out the shortcut and the quick win might very well be the reason you don't have enough successful long stories to share."
