Upcoming Talks at the Escape School, June 30th – July 14th

Screen Shot 2014-06-26 at 15.12.49

Rob, Matt and myself love getting the chance to meet you in person at events. It’s very special to be able to put names to faces and to meet people in person instead of simply interacting over email and social media… there’s something nice about stepping away from the screen and talking to another human being, in a world where the definition of community is increasingly dominated by Facebook, screens, and smartphones.

While it’s an online platform, Escape the City has always been rooted in community, and that sense of community has largely been built through our offline events.

Communities gather when there is a common interest. Our common interest is ‘doing something different’ – our events are where we learn about and celebrate cool people doing cool things. We explore the interesting careers and lives and adventures that can be created when we start questioning the 9-to-5 drudgery and the old ways of work.

We always invite inspiring speakers but a huge reason why we run events is because it gives you guys the opportunity to meet one another. This was one of the main reasons that I started going to Escape events myself, back when I first moved to London and hardly knew anyone here. At Escape events, I would always meet interesting people, some of whom became new friends and professional contacts who I still keep in touch with.

If you’re a little bit shy, don’t forget that all the good stuff happens when you leave your comfort zone. We’ve got some great events coming up over the next two weeks (full July list here) – hope to see you there!

How to Live a More Passionate Life: An Evening with Charly Cox – July 14

Back by popular demand, we’re hosting coach Charly Cox. What does it take to believe in taking the leap enough to actually do it? You know this job, this life, maybe even this way of being isn’t ‘you’, but stepping into the unknown can feel even scarier than staying put. The good news is, by thinking “I want more” you’ve taken a step closer to getting it. The bad news is, you can’t now go back to “this is enough”. In her funny and thought-provoking talk, Charly will share her own journey from feeling lost in London, to building her own company from scratch in West Africa, and several things in between.
