I’ve just got back from the excellent How to build a business from your passion, and I am BUZZING! I even did one of those sideways jump kicks in the street… you know the ones, like in Singing in the Rain where they bang their feet together mid air, I feel THAT excited!

If you have been thinking about starting a business around your passion then this course is for you. It doesn’t matter what stage you are at to take this course, whether you’ve got a fully fledged idea or you just know you want something different from your career, something that fits around your job or a complete change. Here are the top 5 things I loved about the course:

Be inspired

From the moment I stepped into the room when I was greeted with the quote below, I knew it was going to be a good day:

Throughout the course Jo dropped in real life practical examples of how she created a lifestyle business doing what she loved and escaping the boring (though well paid) job as an IT consultant and loads of stories from other successful escapees, who have successful built a business doing what they love.

‘Take what you love and teach others how to do it’

Think creatively

What are your dreams? what would I be proud of saying my job is at a party? How much money do I ‘really’ need to earn? The day was all about questioning your assumptions of what you want and how you’re going to do it. Jo questioned us throughout the day on our ideas and was always giving away tips for how we can make it work too, making it seem realistic, doable and like we’ll have a whole load of fun on the way.

‘What you don’t want is as important as what you don’t want’

Meet likeminded people

Being in a room with other people who are thinking the same things is motivating in itself and it was great to hear other’s ideas on how they are going to build a business from their passions. I hope to keep in touch with some of my fellow course mates so we can continue to encourage and inspire each other to make it happen!

‘You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with’

Take action

It certainly wasn’t all talk, we were constantly questioning our own thoughts, wants, talents and ideas. I certainly learnt a thing or two about myself and took away loads more questions to ask myself to help prepare for my dream life. We ended the day by planning our next steps, from a plan for what to achieve in the next month to where we want to be for the Olympics in 2016. Where would you want to be?

‘Ideas are everywhere, execution is everything.’

Jump in the street

You know it’s been a good day when you can’t stop smiling, thinking about what the future holds and the endless possibilities stretching ahead. After all the things I had learnt, the inspiration I had gained and the people I met, I just wanted to burst with excitement.

‘Success is doing what you want, when you want, where you want, wherever you want’

Now please excuse me, I have a book to write, a business to start and a really fun life to live. Wish me luck. x
