Advice for ‘Starting Something You Love’ – #35: Katie Moumtzoglou

At the beginning of 2011 we started a campaign called Start Something You Love. We kicked it off on 19th January with our big Esc winter party in front of 600 people at Guanabara bar in central London.

We are now following it up with 365 bits of advice from real people who are doing interesting and inspirational things with their lives. And we asked them all the same question:

ESC’S QUESTION: “HOW CAN I START SOMETHING I LOVE?”

KATIE’S ANSWER:

“Believe in yourself, persevere and concentrate on what you are doing – don’t compare yourself with other people/ competitors – their circumstances, setup and financial situation may be completely different.

Thoroughly research the industry you want to enter into. The Home & Garden online market for example is completely saturated and has loads of competition. Although it’s my passion, if I started again, I would probably aim at another sector.

Consider whether you are prepared mentally (loads of ups and downs, long working hours, literally living + breathing your company) and financially (can you afford to not have a proper and stable salary for a couple of years?).
